I’m going to be an Aunt!

I’m SO EXCITED! I keep telling everyone I know, and people I don’t know! I’ve become an even creepier baby oogler. Instead of just staring mystified at babies, I’m now telling their mothers (who, let’s be honest, don’t care) that I’m going to be an Aunt.

For example. The other evening on my way home from work I decided to take the notoriously slow elevator out of the Capitol South metro station. why? There was a woman with a baby getting on the elevator, so I decided to get in so I could make faces at the baby (creepy). Then, as we’re riding the elevator, and I’m making faces at the baby I blurt out “I’m going to be an Aunt!!!!!” (creepier). The woman was nice and polite and congratulated me (as if I had done anything to BE an Aunt). But still, I imagine the experience was strange for her.

I have “I’m going to be an AUNT” word vomit. I’m telling everyone I see. I’m the youngest sibling, and the youngest cousin on my mom’s side- so maybe that’s why I’m more excited than your average person. Who knows…

The funniest thing about being an Aunt, is that I haven’t DONE anything to be an aunt.  My parents had two children, and my sister got pregnant. And I? I guess I’ve maintained relationships that would allow me to be an Aunt, but I didn’t really DO anything to get the honor. Regardless, I’m ecstatic, and I can’t wait till April!

Are you an Aunt or an Uncle?

I’m an aunt to two amazing little boys. My youngest nephew’s first birthday is actually today!!! I was there for the delivery and baked his birthday cake for the party tonight. I love love LOVE my nephews. Luckily they are only about 20 mins away, so I see them pretty often and have awesome relationships with them. The best part? You get to spoil them to death and then give them back to their parents for the damage control.

I didn’t before the baby was born, but I totally have aunt vomit now. On the topic of you not having anything to do with the baby – wait until it is born, so many people keep telling me that ‘She has your eyes’ – I have to keep saying ‘I SWEAR I really had nothing to do with it!”

I am called faux auntie na (at the moment) but I get to be their real auntie in less than 2 months. I cannot wait!

    Love playing with babies!

YAY!!! So exciting. I am an Aunt to four little ones and another one the way- and I still have Aunt vomit. I talk about them all the time, and just you wait- you can have a lot to do with them. By the time you change your first diaper you’ll be wondering how the hell you got there. Being an Aunt is possibly the best thing ever! Congrats.

YAY!!! Congrats, that is great great news!!! I’m having total baby wordvomit lately too because my aunt is preg again… with TWINS!!! (They’ll be my cousins #31 and #32!) None of my cousins or siblings are even CLOSE to having kids (out of all 30, only 1 is married besides me) so I’m glad someone’s having kids. The twins’ dad is the youngest of 10, my mom was the oldest of the 10, so you can see how the age difference works!

Glad to hear it’s not just me running around telling people my awkward good news!
