Pavlova FAIL

Do you know what a pavlova is? It’s Nick’s favorite dessert, and I attempted to make it for him a few months ago. This is what a pavlova should look like:

This is what mine looked like before it went into the oven:

This is what it looked like when it came out of the oven:

Pavlova FAIL. Instead of attempting it myself again, I’ve farmed out the work to my sister and mother. Both of their (non chocolate) pavlovas have turned out great. I’m still gun shy though - I don’t want to fail so hard again!

What’s been your biggest dessert (or cooking) FAIL?

Ah ah, a lasagna recipe. Being French and used to the metric system I was still not so good with the all ounces thing.
I wrote down the ingredients on my list.
    2 oz of cream cheese
when I read it in the store I thought 20. Which I used in the Lasagne. Yes, I used 10 times the amount of cream cheese. It was pretty bad although we attempted to it it. Thought it tasted weird, then I looked at the recipe again (as I should have when I was cooking) and realized what I had done. I felt pretty bad. I don’t think I even attempted the recipe for an other two years, I was so ashamed of my stupidity.

Well.. I love cheese… So 20 ounces sounds about right to me! I had a difficult time switching back and forth between volume measurements and weight measurements. I’d rather weigh something out in grams or ounces than try and and convert it from volume. It’s so much more precise by weight!

On the plus side, you’ve figured out what went wrong - I have no idea how I did that to the pavlova. Maybe the cocoa powder? I have no idea…
