I have (what in my opinion is) a bad habit. I’m a multi reader. Which means at this moment, I’m reading three separate books all at the same time. I’m reading Master Your Metabolism by Jillian Michaels, The Unhealthy Truth by Robyn O’Brien, and just for repeat funsies, Wuthering Heights by Emily Bronte.
The first two books sort of piggy back on each other by strengthening my distrust of GMO foods, our government and food regulation while encouraging me to eat healthier. Wuthering Heights? On my super long flight home last night I picked it up in the airport, along with several magazines I probably didn’t need.
As usual, I find it difficult to read a book where I dislike all the characters. That said, it does make me a bit “homesick” for England. Despite the fact that Emily Bronte is continually referencing the horrible English weather and I’m reminded by Joseph the amount of times I had to say “I’m sorry, could you repeat that” while I was over there.
But this post isn’t about Wuthering Heights. It’s about how I can never stick to a single book. I like to rotate between novel fluff, non fiction, and classics. On one hand, I get a fair amount of variety in my reading, but on the other, I rarely submerse myself in a single story. In my head Heathcliff and Catherine are trying to avoid endocrine disruptors and prevent their kids from being exposed to allergens. Maybe not..
Though one time I read four books in two days, but that’s a bit embarrassing for a 25 year old woman to admit… so I won’t start talking about it.
Do you read one at a time or are you a multi reader?
